Finland Issues €2 Coin To Commemorate 150th Birth Anniversary of Painter, Akseli Gallen-Kallela

2015 marks the 150th birth year of Finnish painter, Akseli Gallen-Kallela(1856 CE – 1931 CE). To commemorate the event, the Mint of Finland has issued a limited mintage collector coin on October 10th, 2015. The coins have a face value of €2 and the obverse depicts a swan gliding on water and forming gentle downward ripples depicted by wavy lines. The inscription around it reads ‘Akseli Gallen Kallela’ with an artiste’s palette between the words ‘Gallen’ and ‘Kallela’ with ‘1865-2015’ inscribed on it. The initial ‘FI’, which is the logo of the Mint of Finland, is placed on the right of the swan. The reverse depicts 6 vertical line segments with stars at each end which serve as individual representations of the 12 original Euro zone states. ‘2 Euro’ is inscribed across the centre of the coin with the continent of Europe depicted under the word, ‘Euro’. The designer’s initials ‘LL’ is inscribed below the letter ‘O’ of ‘Euro’ in the outer ring.Latest News
